ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64-MB Review
    By Vince Freeman :  September 25, 2002

    Code Creatures Performance

Code Creatures is a synthetic 3D benchmark that provides us with yet another angle in any 3D video performance comparison. This is a high-end 3D benchmark that also requires DirectX 8 hardware, and along with 3DMark 2001SE, is a good barometer for potential DirectX 8 game performance. * Please note that due to DirectX 8.0 requirements, the GeForce4 MX cards were unable to complete the full testing and their results have been left blank.

Our first test chart outlines the Total score that Code Creatures produces and it once again confirms what we've seen in many of the other benchmarks. The Radeon 9000 Pro outperforms the GeForce3 Ti 200, but simply doesn't have the power to match the GeForce3 Ti 500.

The next chart shows the actual framerates from each of the Code Creature resolution tests, and we get a more detailed look inside the Total scores we posted above. The Radeon 9000 Pro has a lead over the GeForce3 Ti 200 at 1024x768 and 1280x1024, while falling behind at 1600x1200. We also get a good idea on exactly how much faster the GeForce4 Ti cards are compared to their value-oriented brethren.

    3DMark 2001SE Pro 32-bit Performance

MadOnion's 3DMark 2001SE Pro is a popular 3D benchmark tool, and one that many gamers use to compare performance results. All benchmark testing was performed in 32-bit mode, and used pure hardware DirectX support.

The 3DMark 2001SE Pro benchmark scores confirm the results we were seeing with some of the higher-end 3D games. The Radeon 9000 Pro posts some impressive scores for its class and falls right between the GeForce3 Ti 200 and 500 in terms of overall performance.
