(Press Release) According to data released today from well-known market research firm IDC, Toshiba surpassed all other portable PC manufacturers to become the worldwide market share leader in the first quarter of 2002. In the U.S. market, Toshiba's Computer Systems Group (CSG) delivered strong retail sales and steady growth in direct business, propelling worldwide performance and moving the company to the number two position domestically. Toshiba CSG solidified its market leadership with renewed emphasis on its core strengths of mobility and innovation, along with an aggressive push on wireless initiatives. By exiting a declining desktop PC market and driving cost out of its business model, Toshiba CSG has focused its resources on developing mobile and wireless solutions that deliver the greatest value to its customers.
