ATI Technologies Inc. today at Mediacast 2003 in London, United Kingdom, unveiled the result of its collaboration, built around ATI's Xilleon, with Oregan Networks Ltd. to provide a Set Top Box (STB) reference platform for digital broadcasting, IP television and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Home Media Networking markets. Xilleon is an advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip suitable for a range of digital devices including STBs and digital televisions (DTVs).
The platform is designed to allow consumers to share and view digital media content from a variety of network-connected devices as part of an integrated home entertainment experience. The Oregan middleware stack complies with the emerging UPnP standard, spearheaded by Intel Corp. and adopted by leading consumer electronics and PC manufacturers. This enables fully automatic discovery and presentation of content and services on any UPnP-enabled device within a home network. Regardless of whether the content is stored on an UPnP-enabled PC, digital video recorder, MP3 player or other consumer electronics device, the technology permits remote access, presentation and control of that content from any other UPnP enabled client within the home.
