Superstore shoppers will find four new Gateway models in the laptop aisle, as the formerly direct-sales-only company continues to bolster its retail line. The 3018GZ is an ultraportable (1.2 inches thick, 5.3 pounds) with 14.1-inch Ultrabright widescreen (1,280 by 768) display and Celeron M 350 processor; it combines integrated 802.11g wireless and 10/100Mbps Ethernet with a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, 60GB hard disk, and 512MB of memory for $1,000. Another thin and light (5.5 pounds) design, the 4024GZ, has a 15-inch XGA Ultrabright screen with Celeron M 360 (1.4GHz) and DVD±RW drive; it's $1,050 with 60GB hard disk and 512MB of DDR333.
The Gateway 7422GX ($1,200) is a 7.5-pound desktop replacement system with Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ processor, double-layer DVD±RW drive, and 15.4-inch Ultrabright widescreen display. It's ready for digital media with a six-in-one media reader, one IEEE 1394 and four USB 2.0 ports, and ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics. A similar 7320GZ model offers Mobile Pentium 4 power and Intel's Extreme Graphics 3D.
