Desktop-replacement notebooks are nothing new, but Fujitsu Computer Systems says its LifeBook N3500 is also a CRT monitor replacement: The 7.5-pound system's Color Enhanced Crystal View display combines backlight, LCD, and color-filter technologies to deliver picture quality, image intensity, and color accuracy that rival a conventional monitor's. The 15.4-inch wide-aspect-ratio (1,280 by 800) screen is backed by ATI's Mobility Radeon X300 PCI Express graphics accelerator with 64MB of dedicated memory.
Prices start at $1,499 for a model with Intel's Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz, 533MHz bus) processor and Pro/Wireless 802.11b/g networking; 512MB of DDR-2 memory; a 60GB hard disk; and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. A top-of-the-line version with 100GB hard disk, double-layer DVD±RW burner, and TV tuner/personal video recorder with Instant MyMedia -- for enjoying DVDs, CDs, and TV without booting up the laptop -- costs $2,099.
