Traveling light? Fujitsu Computer Systems has upgraded its 3-pound LifeBook P7010 notebook with a slimmer silhouette and 10.6-inch widescreen (1,280 by 768) display with LED backlighting. The company says the new LifeBook P7120 is the smallest and lightest notebook with a removable media bay that holds either an optical drive or second battery pack. Intel's 915GMS chipset and ultra-low-voltage Pentium M 753 (1.2GHz) processor power the slimline, with Intel's Pro/Wireless 2915ABG adapter providing tri-mode wireless networking; a biometric fingerprint sensor and Trusted Platform Module security chip keep private data private. Three USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 port, and S-Video, modem, and Ethernet connectors are standard, as is a 3-in-1 memory-card reader.
With the second battery pack ($115) in place, Fujitsu claims, the P7120 can deliver up to 11 hours of unplugged computing. A battery-stretching Eco button lets users reduce power consumption for components such as the display backlight or optical drive. The notebook starts at $1,699 with 256MB of DDR-2, a 30GB hard drive, and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo; a $2,149 model has 512MB of memory, a 60GB hard drive, DVD±RW burner, and Bluetooth wireless.
