Value-priced portable vendor Averatec has revamped its 12-inch-screened lineup with a new quartet of thin (one inch) and light (four pounds) notebooks called the 2200 Series. With prices ranging from $900 to $1,080, the systems feature a 12.1-inch, 1,280 by 800-resolution AveraBrite LCD, an 80GB hard disk, and a dual-layer DVD/CD burner plus standard 802.11b/g wireless, USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 ports, and a 4-in-1 memory-card reader.
Available configurations offer a choice of AMD Mobile Sempron 3300+ (2.0GHz) or Turion 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz) processors, 512MB or 1GB of DDR memory, and Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home Edition. All come preloaded with trial versions of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6.0 firewall and antivirus, -spam, and -spyware and Phoenix FirstWare Recover Pro system-recovery software.
