Internet phone calls and videoconferencing and gaming sessions are rarely held under studio-quality lighting conditions. So Logitech has introduced a webcam that combines an extra-large, precision glass lens with a low f-stop setting to capture sharp, vivid images even in low-light or unevenly lit settings. The QuickCam Ultra Vision can record HD (640 by 480) video or capture 1.3-megapixel (1,280 by 960) still images, with RightLight 2 technology automatically adapting video settings based on the environment.
Shipping next month for $130, the QuickCam Ultra Vision offers an integrated microphone and acoustic echo cancellation software, with a video-mirror button letting you check your image before joining a call or conference. Need to brush up that image? Logitech's Video Effects software lets you transform yourself into a three-dimensional, animated avatar or add touches such as glasses and a beard.
