Once reserved for art directors' panoramas and brokers' spans of stock quotes, multiple-monitor setups are becoming popular for multitasking PC users. Samsung Electronics America's 19-inch 940UX can deliver that configuration without the need for a high-end graphics card or other hardware: Thanks to UbiSync technology, it connects to a USB 2.0 port instead of the usual DVI or VGA (though those inputs are provided too).
The $379 LCD's built-in video card and embedded software driver let Windows XP users add as many as six Samsungs to one PC. The display features 1,280 by 1,024 resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 5ms response time. A one-touch auto-setup button simplifies image adjustments, while the 940UX's height-adjustable stand allows users to view documents in either portrait or landscape mode.
