Portable USB-based storage devices are definitely in vogue, and Buffalo Technologies has unleashed one of the highest capacity models on the market. The Buffalo HD-PS500U2 sports a massive 500GB of data storage, and its portable design allows a full half-terabyte of data to be taken on the go. The 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB's technical specifications include a 5400-RPM spindle speed, a SATA drive interface, a maximum data transfer rate of 480 Mbps, a maximum 2.5W power consumption, and a weight of less than half a pound. Buffalo's own TurboUSB technology offers performance of up to 64% higher than 4200-RPM drives and up to 30% faster than 5400-RPM models.
The 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB features a single hard drive protected by an impact resistant plastic case, with a wrap-around USB cable. The drive is USB 2.0/1.1 compatible and is self-powered through the USB cable. For additional data security, Buffalo Technologies has added in Memeo's AutoBackup to make sure your data is fully protected. "In today's mobile society, consumers and professionals alike need to be able to take their digital content with them anywhere. They demand a high capacity solution that can accommodate all of their music, photos, HD videos or mission critical data," said Takayuki Nishioka, CEO of Buffalo Technology, USA. The 500GB MiniStation TurboUSB will be available this month at an estimated street price of $329 USD, and can be purchased through distributors, online resellers and Buffalo's web site. Buffalo Technologies also backs the drive with a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support.
